Med-Peds Student Rotation: MDR 1013
The UM Med-Peds residency program opens the Med-Peds rotation to visiting students during the fall semester every academic year. We would love to have you come and meet our patients, our residents, and our faculty here in Miami, and to learn more about our program and our division. The rotation will give you exposure to many aspects of our program and our city, including the inpatient wards, Med-Peds continuity clinic, specialty clinics, and exposure to our community partners. The collection of clinical experiences highlights the many aspects of what it means to be a Med-Peds physicians and the great flexibility and variety that can come from a career in Med-Peds.
Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics is a unique specialty that trains physicians in the care of patients of all ages. The elective aims to give students interested in our specialty exposure to Med/Peds in an urban primary care practice setting. Students will see routine care of newborns, infants, children, adolescents and adults, as well as care of patients with complex pediatric diseases as they transition into adulthood. Students interested in Med/Peds as a career are preferred between June and January and other students will be scheduled thereafter.
The rotation will comprise of the following experiences:
1. Med/Peds Primary Care Practice- Students will spend a majority of their time with Med/Peds faculty and residents seeing and evaluating patients in the primary care practice. This will include patients that are being transitioned from pediatrics to adult care.
2. Med/Peds and Categorical Noon Conference- Students will attend daily noon conference, including Monday Med/Peds noon conference, Tuesday Pediatric Grand Rounds, Wednesday Internal Medicine Grand Rounds, Thursday Pediatric Academic Half-Day and Ambulatory Medicine Academic Half-Day.
3. Transitional Care Clinics - Students will have exposure to adolescent/ transitional care patients with complex adult and pediatric diseases.
4. Inpatient care – Students will spend part of their time with Med/Peds faculty and residents seeing and evaluating patients on inpatient wards.
5. Unique Clinical Experiences - We customize this experience based upon the student’s goals and interests for the rotation. This includes opportunities with our community partners such as Miami Street Medicine, Miami Rescue Mission, Centers for Haitian Studies, IDEA Needle Exchange Program, and Med-Peds Subspecialties. Opportunities to also meet with other Med-Peds attendings and residents can also be arranged.
The MDR 1013 Rotation is available through VSLO as one of the available rotations offered from the University of Miami School of Medicine.

Med-Peds Miami Voices Visiting Scholars Program 2026 - 2027
We welcome you to experience the University of Miami/Jackson Health System Med-Peds Residency Program through our Miami Voices Visiting Scholars Program! This elective is tailored to your educational and professional goals while learning more about our diverse and vibrant community that makes us proud to call Miami our home.
To serve the needs of our community, the Miami Voices Rotation is structured to expose students from various backgrounds to the Miami patient population. We aim to recruit scholars with high merit and a commitment to patient advocacy. The 2025 - 2026 Academic Year, we will be awarding two trainees for our Miami Voices Visiting Scholars Program.
Program Elements:
2-week experience in the Med-Peds MDR 1013 Rotation
Meeting with the Program Director and Leadership
$2500 stipend for travel and living expenses
Networking with residents and faculty within the Med-Peds Patient Advocacy and Community Engagement (PACE) Committee
Participation in Med-Peds, Pediatrics, and Internal Medicine educational conferences
The MDR 1013 rotation includes clinical and educational experiences working in our Med-Peds outpatient clinics, inpatient pediatrics, inpatient medicine, and participation in our educational conferences.
