Maria comes to use from Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico. As a medical student, Maria has been very involved with the community, being an active volunteer with the Human Rights Asylum Clinic and working with Clinical Esperanza. She served as co-President of LMS. She has been active with Type 1 diabetes research, served on institutional and state task forces during the COVID-19 pandemic, and has co-led workshops on health transitions for adolescents aging out of foster care. Prior to medical school she was a member of the Puerto Rican Women’s National Soccer Team. She has a strong interest in combating health disparities, medical education, and advocacy and practicing in primary care and hospital medicine. In her free time, she enjoys playing soccer, hiking, karaoke, and the beach. We are excited to have Maria join our Med-Peds community and look forward to her future career serving the community in Miami!
